Description

The newsletter plugin sets up the ability to have monthly newsletters, article post type and a newsletter archive.

Usage

Once you enable the plugin you can start creating articles. Creating monthly newsletters is entirely optional as you can use the article functionality if that’s all you need.

Enabling the Plugin

To enable the plugin, go to your plugins list and enable U of T Newsletters.

Options / Configuration

There are no options for newsletters.

How to Create an Article

Important: Before creating a newsletter, you will need to create articles for the content you wish to include in the newsletter. To create these articles, please follow the steps (please refer to the screenshots for more details):

1. In the WordPress dashboard, click Articles, then click the Add New button.

2. On the Add article page, add the article title and click the + sign on the right hand side below the title area to add text or a block. Select a block style such as paragraph from the pop-up window.

3. While adding the desired content to the page, you can save it in draft mode by clicking Save draft, view a preview by clicking Preview to view you article in a new tab. When ready, click Publish to make it available on your site.

How to Create a Newsletter

(Please refer to the screenshot at the end.)

  1. On the WordPress dashboard, click Newsletters, then click Add newsletter button.
  2. On the Add Newsletter page, there are a Featured column and four columns. You can select up to 10 featured articles.
  3. To add featured article, in Featured Articles *, select the article from left hand pane, and drag and drop it to the right hand side pane. Repeat until you have moved all the articles you wish to feature.
  4. For the other four columns, first, give a title to each column. The column title is a required a field. Next, select an article for this column from the left hand side pane, and drag and drop it in the right hand side pane. Repeat until you have completed all the articles for this column.
  5. Repeat this process for the other three columns.
  6. Click Save Draft to save you work, and click Preview to view a preview of the newsletter in a browser. Click the edit button beside Published On to select a time to publish the newsletter or leave it set to Publish immediately. Go to the Issue Year window to select a year or add a new year for the issue and go to the Issue Months to select or add a month to the issue.
  7. Click Publish after you have completed all the above steps.
